Ajmer is a historic city in Rajasthan near Jaipur and Pushkar, named after Ajay Meru meaning “Invincible Hill.” Founded in the 7th century by Raja Ajaypal Chauhan, it was an important center of the Chauhan dynasty and home to Taragarh Fort, India’s first hill fort.
